Prof. V. Guru Saran Das, Director from November 20, 2005, had his education in Dayalbagh since 1956. He did his B.Sc. Engg. in 1965 from Agra University, ranking I in Electrical Engineering; obtained M.Tech. degree in the same branch of engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1970 and Ph.D. degree from IIT Delhi in 1978. After serving as Lecturer in DEI Technical College for a short period, he joined the erstwhile Engineering College, Dayalbagh as Lecturer in Electrical Engineering in 1965. He became Reader in 1970 and Professor in 1991. He introduced Computer Courses in DEI way back in 1971. He also served as Head of Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering from 1994 to 1998. He is credited with contributing the curriculum development of M.Sc. (Physics) and its two specializations offered in Electronics and Computer Science. He also played a significant role in the curriculum development of B.Sc. Engineering (Elect.) and M.Tech. He served as Professor and Head of Physics and Computer Science Department from 1998 to 2005 and retired from the post on August 31, 2005. During these seven years, he actively involved himself in developing laboratories related to Electronics and Computer Science in Engineering and Science faculties. He focused on the development of Fibre Optic Networking DEI Campus. His projects of DST and AICTE speak volumes of his scientific temperament and research acumen. Not only academic contributions but also his administrative capability is noteworthy. He enjoyed the honour of serving the Institute from 1991 to 2005 as the member of Academic Council and as a member of Governing Body of DEI from 1996 to 2003. As Chairman of Computer Advisory Committee from 1994 to 2003, he vociferously stressed on offering computer oriented courses in the Institute. From 1998 onwards, he has been an active member of University Science & Instrumentation Centre. Since 1998, he has been the Chairman, Board of Studies of Physics and Computer Science where he laid emphasis on the improvement of the curriculum. Above all, he has played an excellent part as a member, DEI, REI Higher Secondary School Society and of Managing Committee, REI.

Prof. Das is endowed with the essential qualities of an ideal teacher and an able administrator. Throughout his teaching career, his approach has been student centred. Simplicity, hard work and initiative have been the attributes of his personality. Soft spoken but straight forward, Prof. Das is now performing the task of steering the boat of DEI with all sense of devotion and dexterity.
