About Central Library

The Central Library was established in the 1984-85 session by merging the reading material of the Arts, Science, and Engineering faculties (until 2000-01) and afterwards the Social Science faculty.

The Central Library now has about 1.5 lakh books on various subjects viz., Hindi, Sanskrit, English Language and Literature, Music, Drawing and Painting, Home Science, Arts and Crafts, Performing Arts, Religion and Theology, Economics, Management, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Mathematics, Physics and Computer Sciences, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology etc.

It subscribes to 180 journals of national and international repute, along with magazines and newspapers for general reading.

The library also houses rich reference Collection viz., Encyclopaedia Britannica, Encyclopedia Americana, Specific Subject Encyclopaedias, Year Books, Atlases and other reference material.

Central Library holdings also include dissertations, doctoral theses and project reports on various subjects.

Besides these, the Library is also equipped with the latest e-journals by the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium, accessible through campus-wide LAN. The library also provides access to Internet as well as CD/DVD based electronic resources.

Working Hours

The transaction hours of Central Library are from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm. on all working days of the Institute.

 

Facilities & Services

Borrowing, Renewal, Return

Registered users can borrow books from the library on the basis of Library Reader's Card issued by Central Library. Loan period and the quota varies with the status of the borrower and the type of material.

Copying

Users can avail the photocopying facility for making copies of reading material in Central Library. Charges apply.

Reference

Central Library is a rich source of reference collection, both print as well as electronic. Users can consult this section for various reference purposes and also approach the staff for reference instruction and guidance.

Online Journals & E-Resources

E-Journal service at D.E.I. Central Library is a state-of-the-art facility introduced for the academic community since January 2005, under the UGC-INFONET Digital Library Consortium. Under this programme you can access full text databases of the popular international publishers listed below, spanning through several journals of international repute. You can also take a tour of how to access these e-journals with the help of Reference Guides.

Internet & Electronic Resources

The library has dedicated user terminals for browsing Internet based resources for their study and research purpose. Users can also browse the electronic resources like CDs/DVDs based databases.

Article Requests

Users can request for copies of research articles from journals that are not accessible in the campus. You may register your request yourself by logging in to JCCC or email your request to kshemaprakash@gmail.com.

Distance Library Services

Study Centres under DEI's Distance Education Programme can request for help and support for their libraries, and distance learners can also approach for information related queries and resources via email to kshemaprakash@gmail.com.
