The Department is a pioneer in DEI in starting Certificate level vocational training programmes for school dropouts and other economically weaker sections of society, especially in the remote locations of the country, including tribal areas, which has served to provide gainful employment to marginalized sections of society. The first such Certificate level programme in Motor Vehicle Mechanic (Four-wheeler) was started on 2 June, 2004 at Melathiruvenkatanathapuram near Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Today the number of DEI study centres offering the Motor Vehicle Mechanic (Four-wheeler) programme has increased to 23, including one overseas in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Vocational education is imparted in these centres in blended mode, which combines the best of both classroom teaching and distance education.   

The department is the only one in Uttar Pradesh offering Diploma in Automobile Engineering. It has well equipped lab and workshop to cater to the practical training aspect of students. Major equipment available in the department include Computerized Engine Analyzer, Four Gas Analyzer, Diesel Smoke Meter, NOx Analyzer, Wheel Aligner, Wheel Balancer, Headlight Aligner, Suzuki Diagnostic Tool (SDT) among others.  These were procured from funds made available by AICTE under the MODROBS programme.

The department is well known for its high quality of product i.e. students, who are in great demand by major automobile and other companies. The department has qualified and dedicated staff to cater to teaching and training of enrolled students. In order to provide additional inputs from the field, the department has signed memoranda of understanding with leading automobile companies and workshops as under -

1.      Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Gurgaon.

2.      India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd, Surajpur.

3.      TVS Motor Company Ltd, Hosur.

4.      M/s Dayal Motors, Agra who are a Bosch Car Service Workshop of Level 2 category.

These MoUs envisage updating knowledge and skill of the staff & students and training facilities in the department; special training programmes for students in the college; training of staff in company`s facilities; on-job training programmes for students in company`s dealership; and, placement of students after successful completion of course.

On account of the above MoUs, training facilities in the department have been upgraded to include training on the latest MPFI and CRDI engines with the use of Suzuki Diagonstic Tool. Further, specialized training on Yamaha two-wheelers is regularly conducted in the dedicated workshop set up with the help of India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd. The students undergoing this specialized training are awarded additional certificates of proficiency by the company which further enhances their employment opportunities. TVS Motor Company Ltd has signed an MoU with DEI under their Collaborative Education Programme whereby selected students sign an agreement with the company and receive reimbursement of all education expenses during the 3-year period, including course fees, hostel expenses, expense on books & stationery etc. and are given a job in the company after the completion of the course. Thus, they get free technical education and job assurance at the end. Our students also visit M/s Dayal Motors and see for themselves how an automobile service workshop is run professionally. All this contributes to the overall development of the student and he becomes a practical engineer ready to contribute to the organization he joins from day one.

The Automobile Service Repair & Training Centre (ASR&TC) is attached to the automobile department. It offers consultancy services and service & repair facilities to the general public at reasonable rates. This gives an opportunity to the students to get hands-on experience of running repairs and overhaul of aggregates. Industrial visits, organized for Final year students, further give them exposure to the working environment in industry.

Courses Offered

The Department of Automobile Engineering presently offers a variety of courses as listed below-
  1. Three-year Diploma Engineering in Automobile
  2. Three-year Diploma Vocational in Automobile: Specialization – Engine Testing. (Level 3-5 of NVEQF)
  3. One-year Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanic (Four-wheeler)
  4. One-year Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanic (Two-wheeler)
  5. Vocational Certificate in Automobile (Level 1-2 of NVEQF)

Workshops Organized

The department organizes regular workshops and one-day training programmes for the benefit of the students. A couple of these are -

  1. Programme on Safety and Riding Training by the local dealer of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd, People’s Honda, Agra.
  2. Workshop on CNG System by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

Placement

The department has excellent placement record exceeding 85-90% for the past several years in top notch companies like Tata Motors, Eicher Volvo, Maruti Suzuki, Yamaha Motor, Cummins, and Schlumberger etc. with packages between INR 10,000 - 40,000 p.m. Some students also go for higher studies.

Vintage Cars

The department has several vintage cars in its collection. These include a 1934 model Studebaker, one 1936 Buick, one 1936 Chevrolet, among others. There is also one trainer aircraft of WW-II vintage with all its controls operative. These all attract visitors to the department like nothing else.
