32nd National Systems Conference (NSC 2008)

at IIT Roorkee (December 17-19, 2008)

The 32nd National Systems Conference was organized at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee from December 17-19, 2008. The event was inaugurated by Revered Prof. P.S. Satsangi, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Education, Dayalbagh Educational Institutions and Founder President SSI. During the Inaugural Ceremony, Revered Prof. Satsangi was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award by IIT Roorkee as well as Systems Society of India Award for honouring doyens in the field of Systems Science and Engineering. Prof. Satsangi delivered the Inaugural Address entitled "Generalizing Physical Systems Theory for Applied Systems Research".

PARITANTRA 2008

First Indian Students Systems Conference

 (March 30, 2008)

 

PARITANTRA 2008, First Indian Students Systems Conference was organized on March 30, 2008 with the theme as 'Unity in Diversity of Technologies for attaining perfection'. Paritrantra is a Sanskrit word which stands for 'all-encompassing general systems' and true to its meaning, the conference got huge contribution from all system domains, from humanities and literary systems to educational systems, socio-economic, commerce and business systems to computing systems, and life-and-physical sciences to engineering systems. There were 79 papers in 6 sessions and the conference witnessed over eight hours of buzzing activity in all aspects of systems studies with a wide spectrum of topics being discussed.

 

Glimpses of PARITANTRA 2008

 

The high point of the Conference was a Panel Discussion on Dayalbagh as an Eco-Village System with participation from Eco-Environmental Scientists, Dayalbagh and Soamibagh Nagar Panchayats, ADA Planners, Journalists and Interested Citizens, and the environmental NGO SPHEEHA.

This was followed by an Invited Video Talk by renowned eco-environmental scientist, Prof. Jack Ellis, Professor Emeritus in Environmental Studies, York University, Toronto, Canada on the topic 'Conceptual Analysis of Society-Environment Systems'. Dr. Ellis concluded by saying that young researchers especially should be encouraged to take a fresh approach to broaden systems analysis through innovative thinking.
