Foundation of the Dayalbagh Educational Institute was laid as a co-educational Middle School, REI (Radhasoami Educational Institute), the day after the foundation of the colony of Dayalbagh on the Basant Day in 1915. That co-educational school has grown today to become the Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI), a Deemed to be University. Under the umbrella of DEI are the academic as well as vocational units, from kindergarten to doctoral research and D.Sc. One of the unique features of DEI is its institute wide compulsory core courses through all disciplines of undergraduate studies. These core courses namely, Comparative Study of Religion, Cultural Education, Agricultural Operations, Rural Development, Games and Sports, General Knowledge and Scientific Methodology, Environmental Studies, Disaster Management and Co-Curricular activities, bridges the society, the environment and the academia. DEI also has the unique the Cooperative Programme, a semester-long collaborative scheme between DEI and the industries. DEI has also been making relentless efforts in providing employment-oriented education to women, to the weaker sections of society and the tribal populace, by providing a vocational, training-based Extension Education Programme that was launched in 2004. DEI has also been a pioneer in the country in putting to use the state-of-the-art information and communication technology (ICT) to reach out to its remotely located student community, giving them the flexibility to attend classes at different locations across a network of 476±1 centres in India and abroad. These centres have proved vital in reaching out to the students, seamlessly run its academic sessions, examinations and admissions in the turbulent times of COVID-19.

In 2002, an Advisory Committee on Education (ACE), a non-statutory body was formed which acts as a think-tank at the highest level for DEI and its sponsoring body the Radhasoami Satsang, Sabha, Dayalbagh. The Committee plays a pre-eminent role in providing input for quality improvement in education. Under its advisory guidance, DEI was accredited and was awarded 'A+' Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 2019, besides being ranked the No.1 institute in vocational training, and one of the 5 green campuses of the country. Under the Guidance of ACE DEI has created a Sigma Six Q(uality)-V(alues)-A(ttributes) framework for imparting quality and values-based education to its learners. This framework has been instrumental in evolving the surroundings of DEI and Dayalbagh as a ‘Smart Healthcare Habitat’ during the present global pandemic with minimum infection incidence density.

In an effort to excel and exemplify its strong hold in the field of Consciousness Studies, DEI had established the twin centres of Quantum Nano Systems Centre and Centre for Consciousness Studies in 2010 and 2011 respectively. These centres work on interdisciplinary areas, involving all the departments of the University.

As a unique feature, DEI has initiated and embarked on the Superman Evolutionary Scheme - a unique methodology for the development of Supermen, involving children 3 weeks to 5 years of age. They learn and educate themselves by observing, exploring, performing and interacting with peers and nature. This inculcates in them, the spirit of brotherhood of mankind, societal commitment, discipline, ability for hard work, selfless service, humility, co-operative spirit and dignity of labour.
