Riverside Reunion: DEI Celebrates Alumni Connect 2024 with Pledge to Protect the Sacred Waters of Yamuna

Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI): Pioneer of Holistic Value-based education

Nestled along the serene banks of the Yamuna River lies Anupam Upvan, a picturesque garden meticulously crafted by the Dayalbagh Satsang Sabha and Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI, deemed to be University), Dayalbagh, Agra-5. On February 10, 2024, this idyllic setting witnessed a historic event as DEI hosted  ‘ALUMNI CONNECT 2024’. This momentous occasion served as a vibrant platform for DEI's esteemed alumni to reunite with their alma mater, celebrating the enduring values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, which have indelibly shaped their lives and careers. DEI's rich legacy of alumni engagement traces back to 1926 with the establishment of the Dayalbagh Old Boys' Association, continuing through the formation of the Association of Alumni of Dayalbagh Educational Institutions (AADEIs) in 2005 and the Association of Alumni and Friends of DEI (AAFDEI) in 2007.

Undertaking to Rejuvenate Yamuna Through Shramdan

Under the esteemed guidance of Most Revered Prof. PS Satsangi Sahab, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Education, (A non-statutory body serving as a Think-tank for DEI), the event commenced with a heartfelt "Special Shramdan Session" at Baikunth Dham, Dayalbagh, Agra, symbolizing DEI's commitment to restoring the Yamuna River.

As the day unfolded, the tranquil morning witnessed alumni, students, and community members alike immersed in the noble task of rejuvenating the Yamuna. Volunteers engaged in tireless service, reflecting their reverence for environmental conservation. Amidst this harmonious convergence, the stage was set for the DEI Alumni Connect 2024—an unprecedented gathering that transcended traditional conference settings, embracing the natural beauty of the riverbank.

Voices of Gratitude & Advice to Current Students: Alumni Testimonials

Later, the distinguished guests took centre stage, sharing their journeys and the profound impact of DEI on their lives. The gathering was left mesmerized by a heartfelt address by Most Respected Mrs. Satyavati Satsangi (Rani Sahibaji). Her words resonated with wisdom and warmth, transporting the audience back to her time at Dayalbagh. She recounted the profound influence of Revered Param Guru Mehtaji Maharaj and Dr. M.B. Lal Sahab, She underscored how their teachings and encouragement instilled a profound sense of duty and motivation in students, inspiring them to strive for excellence in both their academic pursuits and environmental stewardship.

Padma Shree Dr. RS Pareek, an esteemed homoeopathic expert and practitioner hailing from Agra, radiated enthusiasm and gratitude as he shared his profound connection with DEI and Dayalbagh. Recently honoured with the Padma Shree Award by the Government of India, Dr. Pareek emphasized the invaluable lessons he imbibed from his alma mater, Radhasoami Educational Institute (REI) Intermediate College, DEI, Dayalbagh. He underscored the indisputable role of hard work, discipline, and spirituality instilled at REI in shaping his path to success. Dr. Pareek's family legacy further exemplified the transformative power of these foundational values, propelling each member to pinnacle of achievements in their respective endeavours.

 

 

 



Trailblazers of DEI: Notable Alumni

Professor Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Vice Chairman of UGC, emanated optimism as he fondly reminisced about his association with DEI, extending heartfelt wishes to the present students for a flourishing career and life ahead. Dr. Anoop Srivastava, retired Inspector General of Police, India Railways, and a Ph.D. graduate in Management from the Faculty of Social Sciences, passionately emphasized the profound impact of Dayalbagh's spiritually charged environment on academic and personal growth under the visionary guidance of spiritual leaders. Mr. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Managing Director of Springer Nature and an alumnus from DEI's Faculty of Engineering, ignited enthusiasm among students, urging them to seize the opportunity to embrace DEI's value system and channel it towards serving society and community in the future. Dr. Apurva Narayan, a distinguished professor from the University of Waterloo and an alumnus of the Faculty of Science, expressed profound gratitude to Revered Prof. Prem Saran Satsangi Sahab, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Education, for illuminating his path to success. Dr. Arsh Dhir, Senior General Manager, Dayal Motors and a Ph.D. graduate from the Faculty of Social Sciences, painted a vivid picture of Dayalbagh as a beacon of human values and wisdom, nurturing inner consciousness for sustainable success. Prof. PK Kalra, Senior Professor from IIT Delhi, Prof. Huzur Saran, Senior Faculty at IIT Delhi, and Prof. Pami Dua, Director of Delhi School of Economics, shared their enriching experiences, motivating students to strive for excellence for the greater good of the institution and the nation.

 DEI Values, Environmental Stewardship & Global Awareness

By relocating the gathering to the heart of nature, Prof. Satsangi Sahab highlighted the institute’s core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The event transcended social barriers, united individuals under a common purpose, and fostered a sense of belonging to a larger community.

By assimilating a “Special Shramdan Session” into the Alumni Connect 2024, attendees were not only reconnecting with their alma mater but also actively contributing to the preservation of this vital waterbody. Their involvement in cleaning the riverbanks and raising awareness about environmental conservation underscores DEI’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable practices.

Furthermore, the inclusion of Dayalbagh’s camels into the celebration wasn’t merely a novelty; it coincided with the International Year of Camelids, raising awareness about these often-overlooked creatures. This unique touch served as a learning opportunity for younger generations, emphasizing the importance of appreciating global biodiversity.

   

 

Cultural Fusion: Showcasing Talent

A vibrant Cultural programme was also organized that showcased performances by the Present students of the Institute, including the performance of the winners of the Zonal Youth Festival who will be soon representing DEI at the National Level of the Festival.

The afternoon session saw a vibrant reunion of alumni who were brimming with enthusiasm as they revisited their alma mater, exchanging memories with present students, and reinforcing the timeless legacy of DEI in shaping lives and futures.

 

Creating Enduring Memories

Beyond the tangible objectives, the riverside gathering provided a unique opportunity for spiritual enrichment. The serene ambience of the Yamuna Riverbank, coupled with the collective efforts towards environmental stewardship, created a sacred space where individuals could connect with their inner selves and the larger universe.

Moreover, the unconventional setting provided a backdrop for unforgettable interactions, strengthening alumni bonds and creating lasting memories. This unique experience fostered a deeper connection to DEI and its values, ensuring the event’s impact continued long after its conclusion.
