SCI-HIGH 2012 (April 21-27, 2012) Summer School in Science for High School Students

It was a great learning experiment for Dayalbagh Educational Institute to organize the Summer School in Science for High School Students (SCI-HIGH 2012) from April 21 to April 27.

The school comprised of 1-hour expert lectures to provide a window on state of the art topics such as quantum computing, nano computing, internet technologies, multimedia technologies, computer vision, solar power, biotechnology, green chemistry, opportunities and frontiers in life sciences, VLSI technologies, Photonics, Medical Science and Physiology, Virtual Labs and Scientific Instrumentation among others. These serve as an eye-opener to the visions for the 21st century for the students and provided them a glimpse of the wonderful opportunities that lie ahead in science. The school also had visits to several labs including SQUID systems at Quantum-Nano Centre, Multimedia Lab, VLSI Lab, Photonics Lab, DEI Solar Power Plant and Virtual Instrumentation Lab at USIC to provide a first-hand view of science in action. On April 23, there was a Video Talk by Prof. Douglas Osheroff, Nobel Laureate in Physics 1996 on “How Advances in Science are Made” and a Plenary Talk by Prof. B.S. Sonde, former Professor, IISc Bangalore and former Vice-Chancellor, Goa University. Mr. R.P. Agrawal, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Delhi was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory Function on April 27. The DEI-IIT Delhi MoU for research and academic collaboration, first signed in 2007, was renewed during the Valedictory Function of SCI-HIGH 2012, with Dr. R.K. Shevgaonkar, Director, IIT Delhi addressing the gathering through video-conferencing from IIT Delhi.
