Prof. Sahab Dass Kaura

Prof. Sahab Dass is currently leading the Hydrogen Energy Research Group at the institute, where he is serving since 1981 after obtaining PhD (1985) and Masters in Chemistry (1978). Prof. Dass is the recipient of Young Scientist Award of Indian Science Congress Association (1985) and the University Grants Commission’s visiting Associate ship (1990). Prof. Dass at present is actively involved in the studies on Photo-electrochemical Splitting of Water for Hydrogen Production and the chosen material of study includes doped and undoped oxides of Fe, Cu, Zn and Ti and Titanates of Barium and Strontium. The studies undertaken by his group on the role of Swift Heavy Ion (SHI) irradiation on the modification of semiconductor properties is first of its kind in the PEC water splitting domain. Exploratory work has been undertaken in collaboration with Prof. Umesh Waghmare of JNCASR, Bangalore on the theoretical investigation of mixed oxides using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) based simulations to determine the properties of material under study with and without dopants. Prof. Dass has published more than 70 papers and has delivered several invited talks in UK, USA, Canada, Germany and China. His research group is currently working on a DST-NSF (Material World Network) Indo-US collaborative project entitled, “transitions metal oxide based Nanoarchitectures for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Generation” having three investigators from University of Maryland, College Park, USA involving exchange visits to each side by students and the faculty.
