The education philosophy of Dayalbagh Educational Institute makes ‘extension’ as an important facet of higher education. The sheer mass of business knowledge and technological progress has increased the scope of any management faculty across the globe. Therefore, the Department of Management at DEI finds it desirable to extend its presence in the industry and society at large. In order to construct this connect, the management fraternity at DEI has identified the following three dimensions of this program:

We-Connect

The major proposition of this initiative is ‘Reaching out to all Stakeholders’. Through this program, the department aspires to reach a range of constituents who are interested in, or impacted by, the management fraternity of the institute including students, alumni, parents, recruiters, other B-schools, government agencies and NGOs etc. In the past, the department has been trying to build and maintain this connect in form of organizing annual alumni meet ‘M.I.L.A.N’, which stands for Management Interaction for Learning, Assisting and Nurturing the Generation Next. As the acronym suggests, the objective of the meet is to provide an interactive platform where alumni of the department meet with the current students to share their industry experiences, expectations of the industry from the students, training requirements and so on.

Apart from this, other such initiatives in the past have been in form of workshops and seminars organized by the department. This ensures the interaction of students with the experts of academia and industry.

To strengthen the network with the entire stakeholders of management program in DEI, a core group has been identified with members as following:

We-Connect Team

i-Connect

The major proposition of this initiative is to provide an ‘Enriching and Immersive Industry Experience to Students’. Under this program, students would spend extended period of time doing internship in identified industry. During the internship, they will also be provided on-line courses through e-initiative of DEI. When the students would return to campus, after their internship, they may continue their industry internship project as part of their major project course. This way, a connection of industry-institute-student would continue throughout the MBA program. Under i-Connect, the objective is to strengthen the partnership with industry with continuous faculty support, employer’s feedback and academic rigor. This task would also include determining Unique Selling Proposition (USP) and correct positioning of DEI Management programme.

e-Connect

The major proposition of this initiative is ‘Offering e-DEI MDPs’. The tasks under this initiative include launching on-line mentored courses for students as well as industry professionals. The department has already taken a step forward in this direction by offering programs in distance and synchronous mode. The shift towards e-learning and the development of relevant infrastructure such as online modules and web seminars are some other steps that would be taken by the department towards this end. To cater to the needs of industry professionals, the department has been offering MDPs in the past, especially through free advice by ‘Business Advisory Clinic’. However, under this initiative, the current task is to develop a market niche by offering web based MDPs that coincide with real-time interaction.
