As a part of erstwhile REI Degree College, Commerce faculty has the honour of the oldest faculty of Dayalbagh Educational Institute (Deemed University). B.Com Education in Dayalbagh started in 1947. The faculty with two departments; Applied Business Economics and Accountancy and Law, is catering to the needs of ever growing economic setting of the country since its inception.

Since July 2008, the faculty is offering the B.Com. (Hons) course at different parts of the country (some of them are remotest tribal areas) through the Distance Education Cell of the University. So far, the course is the only degree course of the University being launched through distance education mode. Commensurate with the Education Policy of DEI to bring about overall development of the student, the curriculum extensively focuses not only on the updated conceptual dimensions of various subjects offered by the two departments but also the students are required to carry out real-life project works. The latest curriculum design was introduced through the National Workshop on Commerce Curriculum in Changing Scenario organized by the faculty in the month of March 2008. Different forums of the faculty facilitate the placement and personality development programs for the benefit of the students. Over a period of time, faculty placement cell has made remarkable achievements in terms of on-campus and off-campus placement of students in companies of repute (IBM Daksh, American Express Bank, HDFC etc...) With regular participation in National and International conferences, seminars, workshops and contribution to various journals of national and international repute, faculty members of both the departments continue to upgrade their knowledge. The faculty comprehensively focuses on research and in the current session (2009-10) 21 Ph.D. scholars are registered in both the departments with a wide variety of projects in the areas of Macro Economic Analysis, International Trade, Financial Reporting practices, Accounting Standards and Corporate Governance. Three major research projects have been sanctioned by UGC and some more proposals are submitted for approval. In the time to come, Commerce faculty will continue to move on consistent growth path and provide the updated theoretical and practical knowledge to its students and scholars.
