Vision

The department envisions achieving excellence in teaching and significant research to provide quality education to students, and prepare professional leaders to address the emerging global challenges and to deal with economic, social and business realities.

Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of the University which began its journey in 1947 as a part of the erstwhile Women’s Training College. The Department has made significant growth and progress in recent years. This has been largely due to innovative programmes and the setting up of such goals that lead to high quality expansion of departmental activities. Through different programmes and activities, the Department has been making constant efforts to raise academic, intellectual and scholastic standards. In line with the philosophy of the University and Vision 2031, the Department provides well-rounded high quality education with the mission objective of evolving a ‘complete man’.

Currently the Department offers : B.A. Social Science (Hons.), PostGraduation Diploma in Business Economics (PGDBE),M.A. (Applied Economics), M.Phil. (Economics), Integrated PGDBE - M.A. (Applied Economics) - M.Phil; M.Phil. Integrated with Ph.D.

The core strength of the department is the quality of faculty which is competent, qualified and trained in modern teaching and research methods. The Department is actively engaged in research and developmental activities that have resulted in the publication of a large number of books, reports, and research papers in different fields of Economics. Several faculty members are involved in research projects and are members of distinguished professional bodies. Many students have published their research work in various reputed journals, qualified NET and SLET examinations, and have been awarded the Fellowships. The Department has encouraged a view of learning, in which students are given an opportunity to participate actively in discussions. The Department has been frequently organizing seminars, conferences, workshops and invited talks by academicians and eminent economists. The fast changing economic scenario poses to the department a challenge of continuously updating its curriculum and faculty, which have been made regularly by the department.

  • Jyoti Gupta received the Best Research Paper Presenter Award for “Public Awareness on the New Education Policy in Agra District” in National Seminar on The National Education Policy of India 2020: Transforming Vision into Action from Sant Ramkrishna Kanya Mahavidyalaya in Agra, November 18-19, 2022.
  • Vaishali Singh received the Best Research Paper Presenter Award for “Consumer Preference: Local Vs Global brands with special reference to Agra” in the 8th annual International Conference of CEPAR, Department of Economics, K J Somaiya Institute of Management, Mumbai, February 11-12, 2022.
  • Jyoti Gupta & Vaishali Singhreceived the Best Research Paper Award for “Role of Social Media during the Covid-19 era in India with special reference to Agra” in International Conference on Covid-19: A Holistic Approach towards Sustainability from Bharat College of Arts and Commerce, Mumbai University, April 9, 2021.
  • Neha Sikarwar awarded the first position for the paper entitled “Ensuring Food and Nutritional Security through Sustainable Food Systems” presented in UGC sponsored National Conference on Food Safety, Nutritional Security and Sustainability, Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women, University of Delhi, March 6-7, 2020.
  • Neha Sikarwar has won First Prize in poster presentation in Sustainability Division of the Research Fair-2019 organized by Dayalbagh Educational Institute.
  • Swami Prakash Srivastava received Lifetime Achievement in Humanities and Social Sciences Leadership Award during the 2nd Higher Education Leadership Meet (HELM 2019) by Venus International Foundation on Jan 5, 2019 at Chennai-Tamilnadu
  • Swami Prakash Srivastava received Abdul Kalam Excellence Award for outstanding individual achievements and distinguished services to the nation by Smt. Meira Kumar Former Speaker Lok Sabha at India International Centre-New Delhi on January 14, 2017
