THEOLOGY

In this course the candidate will be able to understand the general methodologies of study of religion, in the traditional and modern context. It gives a historical perspective of religion as a spiritual phenomenon in general, as also of individual religions in particular. The relation between science and religion obtained in different cultures is explained and the ideal situation in which they both help the development of human civilization is traced. An effort is also made to define what is meant by the scientific study of religion, by adopting holistic and systems approach. In the last unit, the relation between ethics and religion is set forth and it is shown how ethics based on religion is far more relevant to modern man, than rationalist ethics. It is also shown that religion belongs to the spiritual dimension of man and that the true seeker of truth is the most eligible student for the study of religion. Some basic concepts of division of human personality into body, mind and spirit, the necessity of development of our spiritual faculty and the raising of our spiritual consciousness to the highest level, are also explained. –Prof. P. The objective of the Theology course is to deepen understanding of the divine, religious traditions, and spiritual practices, fostering critical reflection on faith, morality, and the human experience. It aims to explore sacred texts, doctrines, and historical developments within various religious traditions while encouraging dialogue between faith and reason. The syllabus covers methodology of Science of religion, History, Philosophy, Sociology of religion; Mythology, Mysticism in different religion world religions, Sant Mat, Bhakti movements, modern religious movements, Creational process, religious Pluralism, Consciousness studies, Psychology & Physics of Consciousness, Cognitive processes, Neurotheology, Science of ultra-transcendental Consciousness, etc.

The course seeks to cultivate ethical awareness, interfaith understanding, and personal growth, preparing students to engage thoughtfully with theological questions and contribute to diverse cultural, social, and spiritual contexts. Theology is an interdisciplinary course, with research often conducted in collaboration with other university departments such as Science, Music, Psychology, Engineering, and more. The programme envisages flexible and economic education to all who cannot afford. It focuses on improving religious and spiritual knowledge and competencies also to get better employment as professional. Thus, it is in line with the objectives of the Higher Educational Institution to provide quality education at affordable cost using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Core Courses:With the purpose of overall development of the students and to inculcate human values in them, two core courses are offered in different semesters, by Sanskrit Department.

Cultural Education:It gives pride in the national ethos so that one may not lose one’s moorings.

Comparative Study of Religions:Concepts of eastern, western religions and Modern Religious Movements are introduced to students so as to inculcate in them an attitude of tolerance and a sense of national integration besides inculcating moral and spiritual values.
