• The Dept. Of Sanskrit was established in the erstwhile Women’s training College offering Sanskrit language and literature courses at the undergraduate level in 1968. With the establishment of the Dayalbagh Educational Institute as a Deemed University in 1981, the Deptt. is a part of Faculty of Arts. In 1986, regular Post Graduate Degree classes were started. Post Graduate Degree is awarded in ‘Sanskrit and Culture’ therefore the study of Indian Culture is a necessary component of PG Curriculum. Specialization in Grammar at M. A. level has been started from the session 2013-14.
  • M.Phil in Sanskrit has been started from January 2009. The Dept. is making efforts to facilitate spoken Sanskrit and incorporation of Ethics and Indian Culture in the Curriculum.
  • Research activities in the Deptt. were initiated along with opening with M.A. Classes. 43 Ph.D. Degrees have been awarded so far. At present, 20 students are registered for Ph.D. Degree in Sanskrit Deptt. The areas of research have been Sanskrit literature (traditional and Modern), Puranas, Ethics, religion, Indian Philosophy, Grammar and Interdisciplinary topics related to Sociology, Economics, Management and Science.
  • Integrated programme in Theology (P.G. Diploma, M.A., M. Phil & Ph. D.) are being run by the Deptt. from the session 2009-10. At present, four students are registered for Ph. D. Degree and Six have been awarded.
  • Two Core Courses of one semester duration are also being run by the Deptt.- Indian Culture , Comparative study of religion. These Courses are compulsory for all Undergraduates of six faculties and Technical , P.V and R.E.Intermediate College of DEI.
  • Computer’s basic knowledge is the part of syllabus of Applied Sanskrit (W.E. Course) of six semesters.
  • In I.C. N.C Tall ( Information communication Neuro cognitive Technologies Assisted language lab) many chapters like Shlok Kalapam, Arunya, Megha, Sanskrit Shikshnam, Varnochharanam have been prepared by the teachers for Sanskrit knowledge,

  • Sanskrit “SHODH-PARISHAD” has been framed since 2018
  • An International workshop was Organized with English dept. on the topic Sanskrit and I.C.T- New vision in teaching and learning in 2017 at I-C-N-C-TALL
