With its modest beginning as an Undergraduate Department (1960) as a part of Women’s Training College, The Department of Drawing & Painting obviously was included in The DEI with its establishment as a Deemed University in 1981.

The Department has well qualified, competent and experienced faculty. Seventy percent faculty members have a Ph.D. degree and thirty percent are JRF and NET-UGC qualified.  They have obtained their Master’s degree from reputed universities such as B.H.U, M.S. University Baroda, Lucknow Art College, Delhi Art College, Jaipur University, Kanpur University and D.E.I. The average age of the Faculty is 40 years and the average experience is 20 years. Most of the staff members are honored by National and State Level academies. The Faculty has also rich for international experiences.

All faculty members are involved in the review and upgradation of the curriculum. Course contents are regularly reviewed to include current topics and trends, in the meetings within the Department and Board of Studies every year. A curriculum development workshop was organized in 2009 for E-content development and courses were thereaftermodified to make them more suitable for students’ placement. The faculty worked extremely hard to design and record audio and video lessons for Textile designing and printing that are running in 54 centers all over the country through the distance education programme and for E-learning UG Course programme.

Success rate has been consistently been 100% and there has not been any drop outs during the last five years.
