About Department
The Department of Applied Business Economics enjoys the honour of being the oldest Department (Established in 1947) of Dayalbagh Educational Institute. It, together with the Department of Accountancy and Law of Faculty of Commerce, is catering to the needs of ever growing economic setting of the country since its inception.
It has consistently practiced the policy of continuous up gradation, particularly when the time comes to reinvent itself in the context of the changing global scenario.
The Department maintains a galaxy of highly qualified academicians with Ph.D. degree. Many of them have qualified UGC NET/ JRF examination and attended Faculty Development Programme in Management (FDPM) at various reputed institutions such as Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad. The faculty members of the department have completed many research projects and are continuing with on-going research projects sanctioned by University Grants Commission. In the time to come, the Department will continue to move on consistent growth path and provide the updated theoretical and practical knowledge to its students, scholars and other stakeholders.
The faculty members of the department continue to enrich and broaden their knowledge with regular contribution / participation in National and International conferences, Seminars, Workshops etc. The Department focuses comprehensively on training and research that is an integral part of the core teaching activity. Faculty members have a considerable number of books and research papers/ articles published in the journals of national and international repute over a period of time. The research carried out in the department covers a wide variety of topics from the areas of Macro Economic Analysis, Economic Modelling, Banking, Insurance, Finance, International Business, and Econometrics. The members of the Department have been instrumental in organizing various conferences/ seminars/ workshops within the Department and outside at the university level. The present strength of the department includes Two Professors, Two Associate Professors, and Four Assistant Professors.
At present, the Department together with other associated departments is offering B. Com., B. Com. (Hons.), B. Com. (Hons.) integrated with MBA, M. Com., M. Com.(International Business), M. Com. (Integrated with B. Ed.), M. Phil. (Dual mode), Ph. D. and Ph. D. (Integrated with M Phil)
Since July 2008, the faculty is offering B. Com. (Hons.) course in different parts of India (some of them are remotest tribal areas) through the Distance Education Cell of the University.
Commensurate with the Education Policy of the Institute to bring about overall development of the students, the course curriculum of the department focuses on interdisciplinary approach of education. It emphasizes not only on the updated conceptual dimensions of various subjects offered but also motivates the students to carry out real-life project work. The innovative teaching methods adopted by the department include compulsory participation of students in invited talks, seminars and group discussions, group quiz sessions, role play, case studies, industrial visits, field surveys, and summer training projects. The proctorial system of the department ensures close contact between students and faculty proctors while redressing students’ concerns.
