Management is a discipline that falls within the ambit of real life. Management education has become more important in a contemporary and interdisciplinary world. In keeping with this fundamental fact, the Bachelor in Business Management Course aims to provide the student with a knowledge base that equips one to make a profitable and judicious decision within the limited resources of men, money, material and machines.
A prerequisite of knowledge economy is an education system that encourages innovation. Innovative thinking needs curricula that enable learning based on experimentation. Such technology transfer of innovative solutions is facilitated by this course through sustained engagement with industry. Keeping in mind that an industry-academia interface is pivotal to nurture mutual faith and to achieve synergy in this regard, a need for convergence of learning hard science with creative endeavours is deeply felt. This innovative blend in education will enable Total Quality in Management and help to evolve “a complete man”.
To carry out the above directive, the basic principles of Business Management common to all sectors i.e., finance, marketing, human resources, etc. are taught at the foundation level, to provide exposure to the nuances and intricacies of management functions. In order to be in sync with the new paradigm shift in business management techniques, this course helps to develop state-of-art communication skills, and also provides an update in management ethics, personality and leadership enhancement, structured short internship in companies, as well as the addition of courses in sustainability and environment issues. Case studies and group discussions are included in this programme.
With a view to offer employment generation oriented courses, the Bachelor of Business Management ( Hons ) programme , which started in DEI in 1993 began to be offered in the distance mode from July 2009.
Education in the Study Centre is imparted through the blended mode: It is a multidisciplinary programme. A team of experts in different disciplines is appointed at each Study Centre as mentors and facilitators having Post Graduate qualifications in Management, Commerce, Economics, English, Computer Sciences and Mathematics. Printed self learning material and DVDs/CDs containing supplementary and supporting material with a lot of visuals are prepared and displayed during each class by the facilitators.
Six semesters have major courses with uniform credits. Over the six semesters, IT based courses are introduced which are relevant for the jobs in the industry today.Practical training is imparted in the IInd semester. The objective is to familiarize the students in different functional areas and different departments in the Corporate /Organizations. Students of BBM IVth semester undergo summer training for four to six weeks in any of the functional areas in a reputed organization.

# One credit is equivalent to 30 hrs. of study and/or doing practical work per semester which includes attending the academic counselling sessions, studying the lesson notes with comprehension, going through other course related documents, listening to/ viewing the transmitted lectures, working on class and home assignments, self-learning etc. Thus, a 3 credit course will mean a minimum of 90 hours study / practical work time per semester.
Notes:
In addition to the professional courses, core courses of DEI form an integral part of the curriculum and include cultural education, comparative study of religion, general knowledge, current affairs, etc.
The performance of the students is judged through the continuation evaluation system followed by the University for on-campus students.
