Dr. Basant Kumari Upadhyay joined DEI as a project officer, Adult & Continuing Education, in the year 1990. She has an extensive experienceinAdult & Continuing Education, Informal Education and Non -Formal Education. She has successfully organised various scheme & programme offered by UGC under Adult & Continuing Scheme, ACEEFO & Life Long Learning for the community. A few of them are- Adult Education centres, Mass programme of Functional Literacy (MPFL), Population Education Club and Area Development Approach including Jana Shikshan Nilayams & Community based continuing Education centres. She actively participated in Total Literacy Campaign under Agra Administration.

She acted as a member of organising committee and resource person in number of workshops, seminars & trainings, developed a large number of literacy & post Literacy material for illiterates, neo literates and dropouts on various social issues to generate awareness towards literacy & education, environmental protection & conservation, national integration, healthy living conditions, small family norms, gender equality, social evils, career consciousness etc. and  need based learning material for short term trainings related to creative use of leisure & self-employment.

Apart from taking classes of PG diploma in safety, health & environment, she is involved in organising short term courses for women & youth since 1992, under DEI Non-Formal Continuing Education Programme and trainings in income generating activities for self-reliance among women and girls of the neighbouring communities.

Honours and Recognitions 

• DEI Director’s Medal for securing highest marks in M.Ed. in 1985
• Letter of appreciation from District Magistrate, Agra, for work done under Total Literacy Campaign.
