MILAN
MILAN is an annual alumni meet held in the department of management. As the acronym suggests, the objective of the meet is to provide an interactive platform where alumni of the department meet with the current students to share their industry experiences, expectations of the industry from the students, training requirements and so on. The alumni also apprise the department regarding the latest trends in the industry and their implications for the curriculum development. Every year the MILAN function is organized with a lot of fevour and excitement with cultural activities, panel discussions, brain storming exercises, management games and o on. This activity is managed in a “of the students, for the students and by the students” format. An ongoing addition to the database facilitates contact and communication for this function.
E-Day
This stands for Entrepreneurship day organized by MBA students of the department of management. This is also an annual activity and comprises of various management games and simulation. The activities include marketing games, product design, business plan, management quizzes, leadership and team games. This is also organized in a “of the students, for the students and by the students” format. Students from various faculties of the institute participate in the form of faculty team. Lectures and workshops are also organized as part of this activity.
CONNECT PROGRAMME IN MANAGEMENT EDUCATION (CO-PRIM-e)
The department has launched a Connect Programme in Management Education on February 4th, 2012. The programme aspires to enhance “Connect of the department with various stakeholders by three programmes, We- Connect, i- Connect, and e-Connect. *About the acronym “CO-PRIM-e”: CO-PRIM-e (to be pronounced as Co-Prime) signifies togetherness (CO-) of the relevant stakeholders (i.e., institute, industry, students and society) in achieving (PRIME) position by the Department of Management, DEI in the field of management. The ‘e’ in the end signifies the important role that e-platform of DEI would play in achieving this goal.
PRIM Conference
PRIM stands for Practise and Research in Management, an international conference organized by the department. The first conference in the series was organized on February 18-20, 2011 in academic partnership with Supply Chain Management Center, IIM-Bangalore, DMS, IIT-Delhi, DIME, IIT-Kanpur, Society of Operations Management and Systems Society of India. The objective of the conference is to bridge the gap between the application and theory of management. It also aims to promote academicians to pursue the relevant research in the area of management. The first conference in the series was a great success because the best people from management fraternity worldwide were able to attend it. There were 12 plenary speakers from abroad covering a range of institutions like University of Texas, Dallas, U.S.A, UBC, Canada, UCLA, USA, Warton Business School, USA, University of Groningen, Netherlands, Duke University, USA, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Bangalore, JNU, New Delhi. A total number of 122 papers were presented during the first PRIM out of which 29 papers belonged to the departmental staff, scholars and students. The next conference is scheduled in the year 2013.
PRIM Workshop Series
Under the banner of PRIM Workshop Series, Department of Management has taken an initiative to organize a one day workshop/seminar. The objective is to invite the eminent speakers from industry and prominent academic institutions to interact with the staff and students of the department. In this series, the inaugural workshop was organized on ‘Debating Ideas around Economic Development’ on October 11th, 2011.The key speaker of the workshop was Prof. Rahul Varman, Department of Management and Industrial Engineering, IIT-Kanpur. He delivered his keynote address on the topic ‘‘Economic Development: What do corporations do?’’. The other speaker of the event was Dr. Manali Ckaraborty, independent consultant and researcher from Kanpur. She interacted on the topic ‘Economic Development: The 'real' population problem’.
Research Colloquia of Ph.D Scholars
To report the results of the on-going research of the Ph.D scholars of the department, a monthly colloquium is organized. It is attended by the research scholars, staff members and students enrolled in M.Phil program. The objective of this activity is to offer the participants an in-depth scholarly exploration of the research tracks on which the work is going on. It also aims to provide guidance, mentorship and encouragement to the young researchers of the department.
Business Advisory Clinic
Business Advisory Clinic (BAC) offered free advisory services to more than 4,000 MSMEs (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) since its inception in September 2006. The case studies developed under BAC are being used in the regular and distance MBA programs. BAC is thus meeting both academic and social objectives of the Institute.
