Prof. Rahul Swarup SharmaDr. Rahul Swarup Sharma is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Dayalbagh Educational Institute (DEI), Agra, with over 25 years of expertise in research and academia. His work focuses on Severe Plastic Deformation, Additive Manufacturing, and Frugal 3D Printer Design, with a dedicated mission to mobilize 3D printing technology across India.
Dr. Sharma has served as a visiting professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA) and a visiting researcher at CEMEF (France). Since 2010, he has played a pivotal role in the Government of India’s National Virtual Labs consortium (www.vlab.co.in) as the National Lab Development Coordinator for Mechanical Engineering. At DEI, he pioneered the development of virtual labs for Metal Forming, 3D Printing, and Casting processes.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Sharma has authored over 70 peer-reviewed papers, mentored 18 patents, and supervised 7 PhD scholars. He has secured more than ₹30 million in R&D grants from prestigious bodies including DST, DRDO (ADRDE), and the MoE. His honors include the DST BOYSCAST Fellowship, the Indo-US S&T Fellowship, and the SSI Vikram Award. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and teaches core subjects in mechanical engineering ranging from Solid Mechanics to Operations Management.
At present he is serving as an Associate Editor for the Journal Sādhanā (a peer-reviewed journal published by the Indian Academy of Sciences
